One of the things i was really looking forward to this summer was our (Baihana) gig in Boracay for 2nd Avenue. I really needed to get out of the kitchen, get out of the city, and just relax. Though it was a work trip.. it was a "work" trip. I can hardly call singing with Baihana work. Even if it was just an overnight stay (which is tiring), it was such a great mini vacation.
To those who don't know Baihana yet, we are an all-femal vocal harmony group. We sing a lot of jazz, but also do pop :) "Baihana" is Bisaya for "that girl"/"'yang babaeng 'yan". The two lovely girls i sing with are Krina Cayabyab and Mel Torre. Mel is our Alto, and for me she really has one of the best voices in this country! She also sings with the Blue Rats (Catch them at Martini bar, Mandarin hotel every Thursday) and the Brat Pack. Krina is a musical genius! She does all of our awesome arrangements (Vocals, band, even arrangements for orchestra!). She teaches voice at the Ryan Cayabyab School of Music, as well as Art Studies at UP Diliman. Needless to say, these two ladies are extremely talented, beautiful inside and out :)
We all really needed this mini vacation. Upon arrival, Krina and i headed out to get a massage. Everything was still closed though (down side of having an early flight), so we decided to get a few drinks. Rum cokes at 9:00am. Yup. And it was awesome. The massage we had after was also really good!
We then met up with Mel and Tim (Tim Cada, our guitarist) for lunch at Mango Ray, where we had the most delicious Garlic & Cheese Pizza. You should eat there the next time you head to Boracay!
After lunch, Krina, Mel and i walked around, and decided to go Parasailing. First time for all of us! It was so much fun! And yes, we sang as we were up in the air. We just had to!
It was only my second time in Boracay, but it was my first time to try Jonah's Banana Choco Peanut shake which is just the best thing you can drink at the beach! Three of the most awesome flavors in one bottle!! I am definitely going back just for that drink!
But of course it wasn't just all play. We performed for 2nd Avenue's Summer event at around 10:30pm. It was an outdoor event, and it was HOT. But we were so happy that there was a good number of people who came to watch us! Thank you so much again, 2nd Avenue, for flying us to Boracay!
We ended the night with a few drinks at The Sand Bar, Rum Cokes (again) and burgers from Jammers, which we enjoyed on the sand, under the full moon. It was such a great day, and i just feel so lucky that we got to fly to Boracay for free!
It was our first time to join a Food Fair last weekend, and it was such a great experience. It was a mind-blowing week because the preparation for it was just crazy! Currently, we have one refrigerator (the one that the whole family uses), a small refrigerator (which can probably fit around 150 macarons), and one freezer (which has little space available for the macarons), so storage was definitely a problem. I decided to start baking on Thursday night and the whole day of Friday for the sale on Saturday. Then bake again on Saturday for the sale on Sunday. With all the madness of mixing, cooking, whipping, folding, piping, baking and filling, i ended up with 0 sleep on Friday, and barely 2-3 hours of sleep on Saturday. It. was. TIRING.
During the Saturday Sale, I had to leave Mr. Graham to man the booth, while i stayed at home to bake. Sunday morning, i was STILL BAKING. But was happy that i was able to join him at the fair at around 2:00pm. It was great manning the booth and meeting customers! I also got to go around the fair and taste the products of the other food stalls (Good bye diet!).
A few of my favorites from the fair were the Oreo Smorkies, the Mad Mud pies from Sugar Stop, delicious Kalookies, the hotdogs from Schmidt's, the yummy dips from Granny C's (I love their Mushroom Pate and Maple Bacon Butter!) and the smoked chicken from Backyard Smokers! You guys should check them out :)
Seeing people buy and come back for more, hearing nice comments, seeing posts on Instagram and twitter, and reading awesome reviews days after just made the sleepless nights worth it! I love baking macarons, and i'm so happy that people like our flavors :) So thank you to everyone who bought from us and who posted about us! We really appreciate your support :)
A few of our friends who came to support us! Thanks guys! :) Kirsten Brito & Andre Calixto; Rusky, Monique & Mattina (Super adorable!) Carlos; Cha Toledo (& Jaypee), Anapet Miclat & EJ Pepito. Thank you also to Kaich Tiuseco, Ryan Pellicer, Jael Garcia, Krina Cayabyab & family, Mel Torre & Julius Lopez, JV La chica, Kevin Atendido, Kris Pasia & Anjo Tee and Anna del Prado for coming! :)
I've been wanting to start a blog for such a long time now, to write about my daily adventures of being a new wife, a new mom, a new crafter, a new baker, a musician and music lover. I've been delaying the process of starting a blog for so long now. But now that this website is up (thanks to my ever-supportive husband!), i have no more excuses!
If you've come to check out and order our macarons, you are free to skip this page and proceed to the Order form. But then, if you have time, and have the same passions as i do, i would love to share my adventures with you :)
So let me tell you a bit about myself. I am Marianna Carminia Achacoso-Graham. I graduated from UP Diliman with a DCPMA (Diploma in Creative and Performing Musical Arts) in Asian Music. I've been performing with an all-girl singing trio called Baihana (Check us out on YouTube and Facebook!), and recently started "Mrs. Graham's Bakery" with my husband, Chris. (Our love story is one i want to share with you, too! Maybe in another post though).
I have an adorable 16-month old daughter, Noelle, who i just love to bits! Being a first time mom can be tiring. But trust me, being a mom is truly one of the best things in the world! So watch out for posts about my mommyhood, and great finds for moms and kids!
Anyway, i hope you take time to visit my blog once in a while. It would be great to read your comments, too!
